The comprehensive Current Procedural Terminology (CPT®) code set keeps pace with emerging medical innovation and nimbly responded to the COVID-19 pandemic. In this session, Dr. Jia Hu, a primary care physician in Alberta, and Leslie Prellwitz from the American Medical Association will introduce how CPT content moves with modern medicine to support better outcomes, helps research and analytics to manage resources, and enables better access to care.

Speakers

  • Dean Parisi, Director of International, American Medical Association (Moderator), is the Director of International Business Development at the American Medical Association. Parisi is responsible for the creation and execution of the AMA’s international Current Procedural Terminology Strategy. Parisi brings a wealth of expertise in building international sales strategies, developing high-performance teams, and implementing organizational missions in the IT and Healthcare sectors.
  • Dr. Jia Hu, MD, FRCPC, is a primary care physician at Cleveland Clinic Canada, Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of Calgary, Board member for Partners in Health Canada, the Treasurer and Executive Member for Public Health Physicians of Canada, and the Chair of 19 to Zero. He has played an important role in many aspects of the COVID-19 pandemic, including scaling-up of testing and contact tracing, development of the mobile contact tracing app, assisting organizations with COVID-19 preparedness and re-opening, and engaging in risk communications.
  • Leslie Prellwitz is the Director of CPT Content Management & Development at the AMA. Leslie’s work focuses on setting the strategic direction for publishing and maintenance of CPT content, as well as serving as Secretary to the CPT Assistant Editorial Board; and providing advice on the proper use and application of CPT to key stakeholders, including educational content presented in CPT Assistant and Clinical Examples in Radiology. Certified in both CPT and ICD-10 coding, Leslie has over 20 years of experience in healthcare management, coding analytics, and consulting, with a focus on the academic medical center environment.
