Dr. Viren Naik, Chief Executive Officer, Medical Council of Canada, MD, Med, MBA, FRCPC.
Dr. Viren Naik is the Chief Executive Officer of the Medical Council of Canada (MCC) since January 1, 2024. Prior to his appointment as CEO, Dr. Naik served as Chief Assessment Officer at the MCC.
A Professor of Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine at the University of Ottawa, Dr. Naik has over 25 years of experience in academic medicine and is an internationally recognized medical education leader with over 140 publications and grants.
In 2001, Dr. Naik obtained a Master of Education degree from the University of Toronto, and a Fellowship in Education from The Wilson Centre for Research in Education. He was recruited to St. Michael’s Hospital, where he began a Research Fellowship program in Simulation, and three years later, he was appointed Medical Director of the Allan Waters’ Family Patient Simulation Centre. In 2009, Dr. Naik was recruited from the University of Toronto to establish the University of Ottawa Skills and Simulation Centre (uOSSC) as the inaugural Medical Director.
In 2015, Dr. Naik completed an Executive MBA at the Telfer School of Management. Between 2014 and 2017, he served as Vice President, Education for The Ottawa Hospital, to provide a supportive learning environment and lead interprofessional initiatives to improve the patient experience. Between 2017 and 2022, Dr. Naik was an R.S. McLaughlin Professor of Medical Education at the University of Ottawa and served as Director of Assessment for the Royal College of Physicians & Surgeons of Canada, where he oversaw the credentialing of specialist training and the assessment, including examinations, for all medical specialties in Canada
Rana Chreyh, P.Eng., MBA
Rana is the Vice President and Practice Lead for Stratford’s management consulting digital practice. She has a 25-year track record of delivering outstanding business results across multiple strategic and operational domains. Her leadership experience includes serving as Chief Operating Officer, Executive Consultant, Director of Enterprise and IT PMOs, Director of Biotechnology, Head of Quality and Engineering Manager at Fortune 500 companies, non-profit and startups. This breadth and depth of experience has allowed Rana to be an integrative strategic thinker and creative problem solver with an action-oriented edge. An exceptional communicator, she rallies teams around vision and leads with empathy and respect. Rana has a unique ability to integrate business vision and technology to turn strategy into reality.
Among her early accomplishments, Rana was part of a core engineering team in one of Ottawa’s most successful medical device start-ups and manufacturers, I-Stat. At Abbott she led and set-up Quality Management Systems, automation, and digital technologies to achieve medical device safety and quality. At IBM she led strategic opportunities at the forefront of digital transformation and cognitive solutions in health, with commitment to client value. At Canadian Blood Services she was known for her ability to turn-around programs and established a modern, agile enterprise PMO.
