Webinar Wednesday - "What's in it for me?" - Developing patient education cartoon videos to improve virtual care services

When designing a virtual care service, the impact on staff and providers is often considered, but what about the patients? By the end of this presentation, you will be able to discuss strategies you can use to develop patient-centered resources such as cartoon videos, for virtual care services in support of patient understanding, adoption and sustainment.

Christy Boyce
Christy is a Respiratory Therapist by training, practicing for 17 years first at BC Women's & Children's Hospital, and then throughout Fraser Health, B.C.'s largest health authority. While doing her MA in Learning and Technology at Royal Roads University in 2018, she joined the Fraser Health Virtual Health Team. Her focus was on clinical virtual health education and clinical practice support and her work included patient education redesign for virtual class delivery for programs like Diabetes, Kidney care, and Cardiac heart function. In 2024 Christy joined the Clinical Professional Development & Learning Technologies team at Fraser Health as a Clinical Practice Consultant, supporting clinical education and professional development across the health authority using the science of learning and evidence-based practice support tools. 

Cara Bethel
Cara is a Virtual Health Learning Consultant at Fraser Health, where she utilizes evidence-informed practice and education theory to develop educational programs for providers and patients. She was previously an Education Lead on the Paris health informatics team where she led an education and training revision project that included taking a learner-centered approach to revise eLearning and in-person curricula, formalizing the Paris community of mentors program, standardizing documents and processes, and redesigning the Intranet site. Cara holds a BSc Kin, MEd in Health Education and Active Living, and a Certificate, University Teaching and Learning, from SFU. She has also held multiple management roles in Recreation at various facilities including Mount Royal University, SFU, and the YMCA. Cara has been teaching in some capacity for over 20 years and brings that passion for education into her work within the health care system.
