Digital Health in Canada is at a tipping point. COVID and the realities of managing health and wellness in a post-COVID world have been an abrupt reminder that digitally enabled care must be embraced, if we are to truly drive scalable health access, outcomes and equity for all Canadians. But how do we get to scale? How do we move beyond pilots and move toward scalable, sustainable and impactful remote care leveraging innovation? 

This panel discussion will focus on the opportunities for advancing digital health scalability and stickiness in Canada through an examination of consumer readiness, innovation and adoption trends, logistics solutions, and innovative funding structures (Fee for Service and Value Based Care models), leveraging international, federal and provincial examples.

Presented by:

Darren Hay, Vice President, Business Development at Medioh (Hypertec  Group) is a digital health executive and entrepreneur dedicated to the development of a stronger health system and healthier people through the acceleration of innovative healthcare, business and technology solutions. He has over twenty-five years’ experience in the management of innovative organizations on the leading edge of healthcare innovation in government, health system, health plan and consumer markets in both Canada and the United States.

Darren currenty serves as the Vice President, Business Development for Hypertec’s global healthcare division, Medioh (the logistics and scalability partner behind North America's largest digital health and RPM deployments (including OTN, Optum, United Health Group, Ascension, UPMC, Anthem, etc.). Prior to joining Medioh/Hypertec, Darren held senior executive roles as Chief Revenue Officer at Care Angel, Senior Vice President at ADT/IdealLife, Vice President at Telus Health and Vice President at Emergis.

He has served as a Governor-appointed member of the State of Florida’s Telehealth Advisory Council, Executive in Residence for both McMaster University’s Department of Family Medicine’s and Ontario Centres of Excellence’s OSCAR EMR initiatives, Advisor to  BCTech and Chief Health Advisor for the Pathway Group.

Shelagh Maloney, Executive Vice President, Engagement and Marketing, Canada Health Infoway has held a number of senior positions since joining Infoway in 2005. She manages relationships with patients, clinicians and the federal government, and leads performance analytics and communications and marketing. She has held a number of executive positions in the public and private sectors, where she honed her relationship management and business development skills. Shelagh holds a B.Sc. in Applied Health Sciences from the University of Waterloo and is a Certified Professional in Health Information & Management Systems (CPHIMS-CA). In 2017, she received the inaugural Women Leaders in Digital Health Award, which recognizes female visionaries who are harnessing the power of IT to transform health and health care in Canada.

Robert Fox, CEO at OntarioMD has 25 years of experience leading large  teams, defining health policy and enhancing the health care system. Robert believes that the adoption of health care technology is a critical success factor for the optimization and sustainability of Canada’s health care system.

Rob has most recently held senior positions at two major technology companies, TELUS Health and Cisco Systems, where he was responsible for digital transformation of health care delivery across Canada to improve patient outcomes and experiences through technology. In these roles, Rob was focused on leveraging digital network and collaboration solutions to improve the quality of patient care in hospitals and enhancing the adoption of technology solutions to enable patient engagement with Ontario Health Teams.
