Attend Optimizing Virtual Care in Alberta for a high-level overview of proposed virtual care design principles as well as barriers to optimized virtual care. This webinar will also include an evaluation of jurisdictional virtual care maturity using Digital Health Canada's Virtual Care Maturity Model. Presenters will offer pragmatic recommendations applicable to any jurisdiction. 

Presented by: 

Dr. Jonathan Choy is the Provincial Medical Director for Virtual Health, Alberta Health Services, and is promoting  the concept of delivering “High quality healthcare, anytime, anywhere” to all Albertans.  He and his Virtual Health team facilitates  the integration of virtual services care into clinical programs within the organization, and collaborates with different Strategic Clinical Networks, clinical operation programs as well as stakeholders in Alberta Health in exploring new care delivery models.

Dr. Ewan Affleck CM., BSc., MDCM., CCFP, Senior Medical Advisor Health Informatics, CPSA.  Dr. Affleck is a graduate of the McGill School of Medicine, and Dalhousie University where he studied history.  Ewan Affleck worked and lived in northern Canada for 30 years. He is currently serving as the Senior Medical Advisor - Health Informatics, College of Physicians & Surgeons of Alberta, and is the past Chief Medical Information Officer of the Northwest Territories. A nationally recognized digital health information expert, he pioneered the implementation of an enterprise electronic medical record system in the Northwest Territories that is unprecedented in Canada in its level of integration. He is currently a member of the Expert Advisory Group of the pan-Canadian Health Data Strategy, and is the chair of the Alberta Virtual Care Working Group. He has served on boards in both the public and private sector, maintains a part-time clinical practice, and was the Executive Producer and co-writer of The Unforgotten (2021), a film about inequities in health service for Indigenous people living in Canada. In 2013, he was appointed to the Order of Canada for his contribution to northern health care. Ewan is married and has two children.

Teri Price is the Executive Director of Greg’s Wings Projects, a not-for-profit organization created to honour her brother Greg Price. The first project developed by Greg’s Wings is the Falling Through the Cracks: Greg’s Story film and Teri has shared the film and facilitated post-film discussions with more than 400 audiences across Canada and internationally. Teri has a Masters degree in Disaster and Emergency Management and worked on Disaster Management Programs in Ecuador and throughout Alberta. The Price family received the Medal of Honor from the Alberta Medical Association and the Patient Champion Award from the Canadian Patient Safety Institute for their work since Greg’s death.

Michael Neth is the Registrar & CEO of the Alberta College of Speech-Language Pathologists and Audiologists (ACSLPA). He is member of the Alberta Federation of Regulated Health Professions (AFRHP) Board of Directors and is active with the AFRHP Legislative and Regulatory Affairs Committee. Over the past decade, Michael has held a number of leadership roles and volunteer positions in the self-regulating professions. Also a professional engineer, Michael is a Fellow of Engineers Canada and of Geoscientists Canada (Honorary) in recognition of his contributions to those professions at the local and national levels.
